LSU enters its season opener at Clemson with several starting positions still undecided, according to reports from fall camp.
Brian Kelly’s team has most of its depth chart locked in. But key battles at left guard, cornerback depth, and kicker remain unsettled heading into Death Valley.
The most competitive position battle is at left guard.
Paul Mubenga, DJ Chester, and Coen Echols have all rotated extensively during fall camp. Kelly highlighted Mubenga’s ability to handle defensive stunts quickly. Chester brings starting experience from his time playing center. Echols, a former blue-chip recruit, offers the raw strength needed to handle SEC defensive tackles.
LSU’s cornerback depth chart also needs clarification behind the starters.
Zy Alexander and Javien Toviano are expected to start. The competition for backup roles remains open. Clemson’s passing attack under coordinator Tom Allen will likely test LSU’s secondary depth early in the game.
The kicker position represents another unsettled battle.
Kelly hasn’t named a starter for field goals and extra points. That decision becomes crucial in a high-pressure road environment against a ranked opponent.
Kelly maintains these position battles reflect healthy competition rather than depth concerns. The Tigers need answers quickly with Clemson’s opener approaching.
LSU opens the season as road underdogs in what’s expected to be one of Week 1’s marquee matchups.
