Major shakeup hits Colorado quarterback room as transfer portal losses reach 23 image

Colorado quarterback Ryan Staub entered the transfer portal Monday, according to ESPN’s Pete Thamel. The move brings the Buffaloes’ total departures to 23 players this offseason.

Staub has two seasons of eligibility remaining. He started two games over three seasons with Colorado and threw for 681 yards with five total touchdowns.

The quarterback is looking for a program where he can compete for a starting position during his final two college years.

Linebacker Reginald Hughes also plans to enter the transfer portal after a solid season with the Buffaloes defense. Hughes appeared in 12 games with seven starts and recorded 48 tackles, fourth-most on the team.

His departure creates another hole in a defensive unit that counted on veteran players throughout the season.

Graduate transfer defensive back Braden Keith announced his decision to leave as well. Keith posted on social media thanking Colorado and head coach Deion Sanders.

“Always a Buff for life,” Keith wrote, calling his three seasons in Boulder a blessing.

Each player’s decision makes sense individually. But together, they show how transfer portal movement has become the norm in Boulder rather than the exception.

The Buffaloes now face significant roster reconstruction across multiple position groups as Coach Prime enters another offseason of major turnover.
