Colorado hired NFL Hall of Fame running back Marshall Faulk as running backs coach, the team announced Thursday.
Faulk joins head coach Deion Sanders and senior defensive quality control analyst Warren Sapp as the third Pro Football Hall of Famer on the Buffaloes’ coaching staff. The team’s offensive coordinator is Pat Shurmur, former head coach of the Cleveland Browns and New York Giants.
This marks Faulk’s first coaching position at any level. The 51-year-old spent his post-playing career as an NFL Network analyst, where he worked with both Sanders and Sapp.
Sanders led Colorado to a 9-4 record in 2023, improving by five wins from the previous season. It was Colorado’s second nine-win season since 2002.
Faulk brings an elite playing resume to Boulder. He earned seven Pro Bowl selections, three NFL Offensive Player of the Year awards, and the 2000 NFL MVP award during his 12-year NFL career with the Indianapolis Colts and St. Louis Rams.
At San Diego State (1991-93), Faulk was a two-time consensus All-American. He rushed for at least 1,429 yards and 15 touchdowns in each of his three collegiate seasons before being inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame.
He remains the only NFL player with more than 12,000 rushing yards, 6,000 receiving yards and 130 touchdowns.
