The Miami Hurricanes’ 2025 season success hinges on one player: Carson Beck.
The Georgia transfer quarterback is cleared to throw and continues recovering from offseason elbow surgery. Beck’s performance will determine whether Miami reaches the College Football Playoff or falls short of expectations again.
“Prized quarterback pickup Carson Beck is cleared to throw and continues to progress on his way back from elbow surgery,” CBS Sports’ Carter Bahns wrote. “If he rekindles the success he found two years ago, the aerial attack will again be playoff-caliber.”
Beck faces a challenge that Cam Ward couldn’t complete last season. Ward posted Heisman finalist numbers but couldn’t get Miami into the playoff.
If Beck succeeds where Ward didn’t, it could completely change his career trajectory.
“Carson Beck is going to play his way back into being a first-round pick,” On3’s J.D. PicKell predicted.
Ward followed that exact path from Washington State. He entered the 2024 draft process projected as a fifth-round prospect at best. His Miami performance launched him to the No. 1 overall pick.
Beck arrives in Miami with different circumstances. His relationship with TikTok star and Hurricanes women’s basketball player Hanna Cavinder drew headlines throughout last season.
The two reportedly broke up recently. PicKell believes this could benefit Beck’s focus on football.
“I love that for Carson Beck… I love the no-girlfriend part of it for my guy. Single Carson Beck, I believe, was the guy who was All-SEC a year ago, if we’re going to go by that logic.”
Beck’s 2023 season showed his potential. He led the SEC in passing yards with nearly 4,000 while completing 72 percent of his passes.
His 2024 campaign told a different story. Beck finished third in the conference in yards but tied for most interceptions with 12.
“I love the idea now that he’s hopefully able to lock in on some football,” PicKell added. “I like the fact that he got out of a place where he underperformed — and he’d tell you that — in Georgia last year. And he’s in a totally different spot.”
Beck returns to his home state of Florida. PicKell expects this could provide a mental reset for the quarterback.
“I love everything about this situation for him.”
Miami enters Year 4 under head coach Mario Cristobal. The program hopes Beck can build on the foundation Ward established in 2024.
Ward’s explosive season reset expectations for the Hurricanes’ offense. Beck now faces pressure to raise the bar even higher.
The narrative around Carson Beck could be completely rewritten if he delivers. His Miami career begins when the Canes host Notre Dame in Week 1.
