Miami announced it will host Notre Dame on Sunday evening to kick off the 2025 FBS season. The Hurricanes and Fighting Irish face off at Hard Rock Stadium at 7:30 p.m. in one of opening weekend’s biggest matchups.
This marks Miami’s first Sunday season opener since 2018. The Hurricanes faced LSU at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, that year as part of the now-defunct Advocare Classic.
LSU featured Joe Burrow, Ja’Marr Chase and Justin Jefferson on that roster.
Notre Dame enters with momentum after a 14-2 season that ended with a loss to Ohio State in the National Championship Game. The Fighting Irish hold an 18-8-1 all-time series lead over Miami and have won seven of their past eight season openers.
The teams have played 14 times in Florida, with Miami holding a 7-6-1 record in those games.
Notre Dame’s record at Hard Rock Stadium sits at 1-2 lifetime. The Irish’s most recent victory there came in the 2025 CFP Semifinal at the Orange Bowl, a 27-24 win over Penn State. Miami dominated Notre Dame when these teams last met at Hard Rock in November 2017.
Both programs enter with national championship aspirations for 2025. The Labor Day weekend clash will set the tone for each team’s title hopes.
