Carson Beck transfers to Miami after Georgia exit, reportedly signs $4.3 million deal

Former Georgia quarterback Carson Beck has transferred to Miami for the upcoming season after entering the transfer portal instead of declaring for the NFL Draft. Beck, who started for Georgia the past two seasons, will now try to replace No. 1 overall pick Cam Ward at Miami.

Miami reportedly offered Beck $4.3 million to become their quarterback.

When Beck initially entered the portal, speculation connected his decision to Miami with his then-girlfriend Hanna Cavinder, who plays basketball for the school. Both parties stated Beck made the decision independently, but comments following their breakup suggested otherwise.

“At the same time he lowkey embarrassed himself, he went to Miami because of you,” Kai Trump said.

Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin took a shot at Beck’s decision, referencing his performance against the Rebels.

“Miami gave him $4.3 million?” Kiffin said, surprised. “Did they watch his game against us?”

Despite being one of the top players available in the transfer portal, Beck ranked second in spring transfer rankings. Max Olson explained the reasoning: “The elbow injury is also the lone reason Beck wasn’t the No. 1 player in our transfer rankings. Beck was limited during spring practice, but the experience he brings to the table as a two-year starter is hard to beat.”

Beck’s arrival improves Miami’s chances of competing for the ACC Championship. However, recent win projections place the Hurricanes tied for second place with three other conference teams.

On paper, Miami and Clemson appear to be the leading contenders for the ACC title, though Louisville and SMU could also challenge for the championship.

While Beck brings needed experience to Miami’s quarterback position, it hasn’t been enough to make them the clear conference favorite. After last season’s disappointing finish, the Hurricanes will enter this season with plenty to prove.
