Jordan Seaton announced he’s entering the transfer portal just four days before the window closes, dealing Colorado a major blow.
The offensive tackle is the one player the Buffaloes couldn’t afford to lose. Now he’s planning to leave.
How it happened has fans and media upset. College football analyst Josh Pate highlighted the issues on social media over the past few days.
Seaton’s announcement video was produced by Colorado’s own production team. The staff made it thinking they were announcing Seaton’s return to Colorado in 2025. Using CU resources for a transfer announcement takes serious boldness.
The timing raises questions too.
The portal stays open for exactly 14 days. Seaton made his announcement on Day 9.
Miami’s Celebrity Recruiter Gets Involved
Michael Irvin took to Twitter Tuesday night to recruit Seaton. The former Miami player and biggest Hurricanes celebrity fan made an interesting move by tagging Colorado head coach Deion Sanders.
“If you’re going to leave my boy…” Irvin posted.
Meet me up there @michaelirvin88 https://t.co/RJSFCtD0pG
— Jordan Seaton (@JordanSeaton_) January 14, 2026
Seaton responded Wednesday with “Meet me up there” and tagged Irvin back. The geography doesn’t work though – going from Boulder to Miami is actually heading down, not up.
Seaton’s handling of this whole situation isn’t helping his case.
This feels like LeBron James’ “Decision” all over again. Seaton probably won’t get vilified the same way, but the execution comes from a similar place of self-promotion.
Two big questions emerge: Is Miami now the frontrunner for Seaton? And how will this affect the relationship between Irvin and Sanders?
The late timing suggests someone poached him with a better NIL package. If Irvin helped take Seaton from Colorado, that could damage his relationship with Sanders. Was Sanders tagged because he gave his blessing?
Either way, it looks bad from almost any angle.
