Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy blasted NFL officials after a controversial ball-spotting decision in the Kansas City Chiefs’ 32-29 playoff victory over the Buffalo Bills Sunday.
The Michigan alumnus targeted a fourth-quarter sequence when Buffalo led 22-21. The Bills appeared to convert two crucial plays for first downs, but officials marked both attempts short.
Portnoy’s reaction on X (formerly Twitter) has generated over 6 million views:
“I’m quitting watching football. There is no other way to teach [Roger Goodell] a lesson. This is blatant cheating.”
The disputed plays involved Bills tight end Dalton Kincaid on third-and-3 and quarterback Josh Allen on fourth down. Kincaid finished with 13 receiving yards and a key drop.
Kansas City capitalized on the turnover on downs, taking their first lead of the fourth quarter. The Chiefs advanced to face the Baltimore Ravens in the AFC Championship game.
This continues a pattern of high-profile officiating controversies in NFL playoff games. The league has not commented on the specific calls in question.
Portnoy maintains deep ties to football, recently helping the University of Michigan land five-star quarterback recruit Bryce Underwood. The school flipped Underwood’s commitment from LSU.
The NFL’s competition committee typically reviews controversial postseason calls during their annual meeting in March.
Kansas City now sits one win away from their fourth Super Bowl appearance in five seasons.
