Exciting Times for Jaxx DeJean
Jaxx DeJean, a standout athlete from Odebolt, Iowa, is already making waves as one of the top prospects in the 2027 recruiting class. And it’s not just because he’s got a famous last name—his older brother, Cooper DeJean, is a Super Bowl champ. Jaxx’s talent on the field speaks for itself.
On Thursday, he scored a big offer from none other than Michigan. That’s right, the Wolverines are interested, thanks to their tight ends coach, Steve Casula, who extended the offer.
Who’s In the Race?
So far, two programs have been leading the charge in recruiting Jaxx: Iowa and Kansas State. Iowa’s got the home-state advantage since Cooper played there, and K-State is making it clear they’re very interested too.
Jaxx has already visited both Iowa City and Manhattan several times. As of August, he was ranked as On3’s No. 24 overall prospect and the No. 3 athlete in the 2027 class.
“DeJean watched his brother Cooper shine in Iowa City and the Hawkeyes staff wants to run it back. They’re one of the programs on him the hardest along with Kansas State,” said **Steve Wiltfong**, On3’s VP of Recruiting.
A Versatile Freshman Year
During his freshman year at OABCIG, Jaxx did it all. He racked up 500 receiving yards and seven touchdowns. Not to mention, he rushed for five more scores. On defense? Four interceptions and two fumble recoveries. Talk about a busy season!
His first Division I offer came from UAB back in February, showing that big schools are taking notice early.
Michigan’s Recruiting Game
As of now, Michigan hasn’t added anyone to its 2027 recruiting class. They have two commits for 2026—Brody Jennings, a four-star cornerback from Jacksonville, and Jaylen Pile, a three-star wide receiver from Texas.
The Wolverines wrapped up the 2025 cycle with the nation’s No. 6 class, according to the On3 Industry Team Recruiting Rankings. They’re clearly aiming high again.
So, what’s next for Jaxx DeJean? With big schools knocking on his door, it’ll be interesting to see where he lands. Will he follow in his brother’s footsteps, or carve out his own path? Only time will tell!
