Michigan football is closing in on a commitment from four-star cornerback Dorian Barney, gaining momentum over Penn State in one of the latest recruiting battles between the two programs.
247Sports recruiting analyst Sam Webb placed a crystal ball prediction for the Wolverines to land the top-150 prospect following Barney’s recent official visit to Ann Arbor.
The visit left a strong impression on the Georgia cornerback.
“The Michigan visit was great, and some takeaways were just bonding with the coaches and getting the feel of how they want me even more and how big of a priority I am to them,” Barney told On3’s Steve Wiltfong.
Barney is set to announce his college choice on July 5. The 6-foot-1 cornerback from Carrollton High School in Georgia has narrowed his options to four schools: Michigan, Penn State, Texas A&M, and Georgia Tech.
He’s ranked as the No. 148 prospect nationally and the No. 14 cornerback in the 2026 recruiting class.
The recruitment has drawn significant attention beyond his final four schools. Barney holds offers from Alabama, Florida, Georgia, LSU, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Oregon, and Texas among others.
Landing Barney would represent a significant recruiting victory for head coach Sherrone Moore and defensive coordinator Wink Martindale. The coaching staff is working to strengthen what’s currently the 32nd-ranked recruiting class in the country for 2026.
Michigan has secured twelve commits so far in its 2026 class.
The Wolverines and Nittany Lions have consistently battled for top prospects in recent years, particularly in the defensive backfield. Barney’s commitment would continue Michigan’s efforts to rebuild its secondary depth chart for the future.
