Bryce Underwood faced the same pressure Alabama wide receiver Ryan Williams dealt with last season. Both players entered college at just 17 years old.

The Michigan quarterback has handled his first season leading Sherrone Moore’s offense like a veteran. He’s won over Ann Arbor fans with his personality and work ethic.

That work ethic showed during the offseason when Underwood added 15 pounds of muscle. The extra strength will help him handle Big Ten competition.

Michigan Wolverines On SI writer Jerred Johnson believes Underwood’s physical development could reach elite NFL levels. He compared the freshman to one of the league’s top quarterbacks.

“If he were to grow just another inch and put on a meager ten more pounds, he would be a mirror image of Buffalo Bills great and reigning 2024 NFL MVP, Josh Allen. With his talent and gifted arm paired with physical traits that put him on another echelon compared to his peers, Underwood could truly become an unstoppable force.”

The comparison highlights Underwood’s potential. Allen stands 6-foot-5 and weighs 237 pounds while dominating NFL defenses with his arm strength and mobility.

Underwood enters his second season under Moore with higher expectations. The Wolverines open August 30 at “The Big House” against the New Mexico Lobos.

The home opener will give fans their first look at Underwood’s physical transformation. Michigan needs strong quarterback play to compete in the Big Ten this season.
