Edward Whiting Chooses Michigan State
Edward Whiting, a standout tight end from Sioux Falls, Idaho, has decided to join the Michigan State Spartans.
Whiting, standing tall at 6-foot-6 and weighing 230 pounds, is ranked as the nation’s No. 19 tight end by On3. He had plenty of options, including offers from big names like Alabama, Auburn, and Michigan. But in the end, he felt a strong pull towards Michigan State.
Why? Well, it seems the connection with head coach Jonathan Smith and future position coach Brian Wozniak made all the difference. Whiting said, "Just the connection I had with Coach Wozniak and Coach Smith felt right compared to other places."
It’s pretty amazing to see how Michigan State’s new coaching staff, in their first year, is already making waves. Whiting was impressed by what they achieved at Oregon State and believes they can bring that magic to Michigan State.
This commitment marks Whiting as the third recruit for the Spartans in the 2026 cycle. And it sounds like the timing was perfect. "The time felt right," Whiting shared.
Wozniak, who actually played tight end himself, led the recruitment. That firsthand experience likely helped build trust. Whiting appreciated their unwavering faith in him from the start, saying, "They’re the most constant out of all the people recruiting me."
Michigan State showed a lot of personal interest, offering Whiting a spot in October and inviting him to their last game of the season in November.
And he’s not the only one joining the team this weekend. Kayd Coffman, a four-star quarterback, also committed, adding more talent to the Spartans’ future lineup.
So, what’s next for Whiting? It’ll be exciting to watch how he fits into the team and see if Michigan State can indeed create something special.
