Sherrone Moore and Michigan locked up one of the nation’s top recruiting classes this offseason. The haul was headlined by quarterback Bryce Underwood, widely recognized as the top prospect in the country.
The class also featured several players ranked at the top of their positions, including cornerback Shamari Earls.
Freshman cornerback calls out dishonest recruiters
Earls is expected to wear the No. 2 jersey once made famous by Charles Woodson. He recently spoke with Michigan insider Sam Webb about his recruiting journey.
In the interview, Earls made it clear that some coaches weren’t honest during the process.
Earls initially committed to Georgia. He admitted that choice was made for “a lazy reason” – simply buying into the reputation of SEC football. Over time, however, he began to reconsider.
He credited Michigan’s persistence and honesty as the deciding factors in his final decision.
“Michigan stayed consistent. They told me they needed a corner, and I could see that. Everything they said during recruiting has been true so far. A lot of coaches lie and change things up. That’s not the case here. The coaches are genuine.”
Earls also pointed to the university’s academics, campus environment, and people in Ann Arbor as reasons for his choice.
His comments come as Michigan’s roster continues to strengthen. The Wolverines recently added a transfer linebacker and several receivers are drawing attention as potential impact players.
Earls is positioned to contribute right away as the season approaches. Michigan’s coaching staff will rely on a mix of experienced veterans and talented newcomers.
The combination should help build on the strong finish that made them one of college football’s most dangerous teams in 2024.
