Sam Horn’s 2025 season with Missouri ended before it really began.

The Tigers quarterback suffered a fractured right tibia on his first play against Central Arkansas in Week 1. He’ll miss the rest of the season after undergoing surgery.

The injury happened on a designed run when Horn’s right leg was struck. He was later seen on crutches with a brace.

Horn’s road back to football wasn’t easy. He missed the entire 2024 season after Tommy John surgery from his baseball career. The junior had just returned as a two-sport athlete and won a close quarterback competition against Penn State transfer Beau Pribula this offseason.

Eli Drinkwitz planned to rotate both quarterbacks against Central Arkansas. Those plans changed immediately.

Pribula has stepped up in Horn’s absence. He’s completed 79 percent of his passes for 617 yards and seven total touchdowns through two games.

The Tigers are 2-0 with wins over Central Arkansas and Kansas. They’re ranked No. 25 in the AP Poll heading into Week 3.

Horn’s future gets complicated beyond football. The Los Angeles Dodgers drafted him in the 17th round of the 2025 MLB Draft. He signed with the organization in July but chose to play football this fall.

On the mound, Horn throws a 98 MPH fastball. His collegiate baseball innings have been limited due to the Tommy John surgery.

Missouri now turns fully to Pribila as the starter. Freshman Matt Zollers serves as the backup quarterback.

The Tigers face Louisiana on Saturday as they look to stay undefeated without their original starting quarterback.
