Pennick, a sophomore guard, averaged double-digit points this season, one of only two Midshipmen to do so.
He had started all 33 games this season, averaging 25.6 minutes per contest.
Navy entered the tournament with a 13-18 record but won two consecutive games to reach the championship game.
Patriot League Tournament Implications
The No. 5 seeded Midshipmen upset No. 1 Bucknell in the semifinals to set up the matchup with No. 2 American.
Navy hasn’t appeared in the NCAA Tournament since 1998.
American is seeking its first March Madness bid since 2014.
The winner receives the conference’s automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
Colgate, which had represented the Patriot League in four straight tournaments and five of the last six, lost to American in Sunday’s semifinals. This guarantees a new team will represent the conference this year.
