Deion Sanders is preparing for his first collegiate season without his sons on the roster. The Colorado coach is now facing questions about his true motivations for coaching football.

Quarterback coach Quincy Avery believes this season will reveal Sanders’ real intentions behind his coaching career.

“It’s going to get really difficult and Deion Sanders is going to have to make a real decision,” Avery said. “Was he doing this the whole time to prop his son up and help him become this top-tier quarterback, which he did, or does he want to do this because he really cares about the kids? He’s never coached a team in which his son did not play for. This is brand new to him; so we get to see who he is as a person when he has to take on this team without his sons involved.”

Shedeur Sanders is now with the Cleveland Browns after being selected in the fifth round of the NFL Draft.

However, reports suggest he’s not in line for the starting position. Former NFL receiver TJ Houshmandzadeh shared what he’s hearing from inside the Browns organization.

“I was told from somebody that’s in the building, that ain’t a player, it’s really coming down to Kenny Pickett or Dillon Gabriel,” Houshmandzadeh said.

The quarterback competition appears to be between two veterans rather than the rookie Sanders.

CFL Option Available

Sanders has also been placed on the Toronto Argonauts’ negotiation list in the Canadian Football League. This gives him a potential backup option if his NFL opportunity doesn’t work out in Cleveland.

Marshall Ferguson from CFL.ca hasn’t ruled out the possibility of Sanders heading north.

“You already know the story and the bloodlines as Shedeur Sanders showed off million dollar watches to opposing student sections while enjoying his visit to Colorado with legendary dad Deion. Can you image the buzz around Sanders to Toronto? I can’t yet, but after falling all the way to the fifth round of the NFL Draft this year, never say never,” Ferguson wrote.

The CFL option could provide Sanders with an opportunity to showcase his skills if Cleveland decides to move in a different direction.

Sanders’ draft position surprised many analysts who expected him to be selected earlier. His fall to the fifth round opened up questions about his NFL readiness.

If the Browns release Sanders during roster cuts, the Argonauts would have his CFL rights. This could give him a chance to prove he belongs at the professional level while staying ready for another NFL opportunity.
