NFL Draft analysts are questioning Shedeur Sanders’ position in the upcoming quarterback rankings as the evaluation process continues beyond the Combine in Indianapolis.

While Miami’s Cam Ward has emerged as the likely QB1 in this draft class according to most media reports, ESPN analyst Todd McShay suggests Sanders might not even be the second quarterback selected.

“It’s maybe quarterback three discussion time now,” said Stephen Muench, McShay’s podcast co-host, in a recent segment.

Ole Miss’ Jaxson Dart and Louisville’s Tyler Shough are gaining momentum in draft conversations that had previously centered on Ward and Sanders.

“It could be a long first night of the draft for Shedeur Sanders,” McShay added, indicating that concerns about Sanders’ play and character could cause his draft position to fall.

Several teams within the Top 10 picks need quarterback help, but Sanders might slide further than initially projected.

In Vinnie Iyer’s recent NFL Mock Draft for Sporting News, Sanders falls to the Las Vegas Raiders at sixth overall, with the quarterback-needy New York Giants selecting his Colorado teammate Travis Hunter instead.

Sanders won the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award and Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year honors during his record-setting 2023 season with Colorado.

The son of NFL legend Deion Sanders appears to be facing skepticism from some NFL personnel despite his collegiate accolades.
