South Florida kicker Nico Gramatica carries one of the most recognizable names in football.

The USF player is the son of former NFL kicker Martin Gramatica, who spent 10 seasons in the league and earned a Super Bowl ring with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Martin made 76.4% of his field goals during his NFL career from 1999-2008. He connected on 17-of-27 attempts from 50-plus yards while playing for the Buccaneers, Colts, Cowboys and Saints.

The elder Gramatica earned Pro Bowl honors in 2000 and picked up the nickname “Automatica” during his time with Tampa Bay.

Bill Gramatica, Nico’s uncle, also kicked in the NFL during a four-year career.

Following the Family Legacy

Nico has shown he inherited the family’s kicking ability. He owns a career-long field goal of 58 yards at USF.

Last season, he became the first Bulls kicker to make two field goals of 50 yards or longer in the same game.

Martin still holds the NCAA record for longest field goal at 65 yards, a mark he set during his college career at Kansas State in 1998.

The family connection gives USF fans reason to expect big things from their current kicker. Martin’s success at both the college and professional levels suggests the Gramatica name will continue making an impact in football.

Nico’s performances this season will determine whether he can match his father’s achievements on the field.
