Oklahoma State announced the addition of transfer quarterback Drew Mestemaker on Saturday, reuniting him with head coach Eric Morris in Stillwater.

The former North Texas signal-caller follows Morris to the Big 12 after two seasons with the Mean Green. Mestemaker entered the transfer portal shortly after Morris accepted the Cowboys’ head coaching position.

Mestemaker started as a walk-on at North Texas before becoming one of college football’s most productive quarterbacks in 2025.

The 6-foot-4, 210-pound redshirt freshman completed 70.2% of his passes while leading the FBS with 4,129 passing yards in 12 games. He threw for 31 touchdowns against seven interceptions and earned American Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Year honors.

His 4,129 passing yards made him just the fifth freshman in FBS history to surpass 4,000 passing yards in a season.

Mestemaker set multiple single-season passing records at North Texas after appearing in five games as a true freshman. His breakout performance came in the program’s bowl game before seizing the starting role the following season.

The quarterback will have two seasons of eligibility remaining and is expected to compete for Oklahoma State’s starting job heading into 2026. Morris inherits an experienced, high-volume passer as he looks to establish his offensive system with the Cowboys.

Oklahoma State is retooling its offense around proven production after Mestemaker’s record-setting campaign in Conference USA before North Texas joined the American Athletic Conference.
