Northwestern offered four-star tight end Anthony Cartwright III on Wednesday afternoon, joining 32 other schools pursuing the class of 2027 prospect.

David Braun’s Wildcats are hoping to secure their first commitment from the 2027 recruiting class.

The offer puts Northwestern in competition with Ohio State, Alabama, Oregon, Penn State and Tennessee. Fourteen of the 18 Big Ten schools have extended offers to Cartwright. Indiana, Iowa, Minnesota and UCLA haven’t offered yet.

Cartwright is ranked No. 163 nationally, No. 12 among tight ends and No. 3 in Michigan, according to On3.

The 6-foot-4 rising junior from Franklin, Michigan, has offers from both Michigan and Michigan State in his home state.

He received his first Division I offer from Kentucky in September 2023 during his freshman season. Interest has grown rapidly since then.

Roster Situation

Northwestern has 10 tight ends on their current 2025 roster. The group includes only two upperclassmen.

The Wildcats haven’t recruited anyone at tight end in the 2026 class. Landing Cartwright would give Braun’s staff a prospect they could develop over multiple seasons.

The Detroit Country Day student faces long odds of choosing Northwestern, though.

Projection

On3 projects Cartwright will choose Michigan. The site lists Michigan State, Ohio State, Florida and Tennessee as runners-up.

All five programs are stronger than Northwestern’s. The Wildcats’ offense ranked last in the Big Ten this past season.

Staying close to home might also appeal to Cartwright.
