Ohio State’s Impressive 2025 Class Gets a Boost

Ohio State just keeps getting better. After showcasing the nation’s top defense and snagging a national championship, they’re adding even more talent to their lineup for 2025. One standout is Devin Sanchez, a top-tier cornerback from Houston North Shore. This guy is a big deal—he’s a five-star recruit and ranked No. 19 in the final 2025 On300 rankings.

The latest update of the 2025 On300 list now features 32 five-star prospects, up from 25 last November. That’s quite an increase!

Since committing to Ohio State back in January 2024, Sanchez has been all in with the Buckeyes. He’s not just sitting on the sidelines either. Devin’s been actively recruiting other players, using both social media and good old-fashioned word-of-mouth to sell them on joining the Scarlet and Gray.

“I knew after I took my first visit out to Ohio,” Sanchez shared about his commitment. “It was fun seeing what they do, and it all came to me after my visit for the Penn State game. I knew it was real when I didn’t go to Alabama and LSU weeks later. I thought to myself—what am I holding out for? Why wait?”

One reason Sanchez is so committed? His strong connection with Tim Walton. Walton isn’t just a coach to Devin; he’s almost like family.

“He’s really like my dad,” Sanchez explained. “They really love football and he knows what he’s talking about. Our relationship clicked from the start, and every visit just makes it stronger. Now, when we talk, it’s about more than just football.”

Comparisons to NFL Talent

On3’s scouting team sees a lot of potential in Sanchez, comparing him to Christian Gonzalez of the New England Patriots. They noted that both have similar size and athleticism, although Gonzalez was more involved in offense and special teams early on, while Sanchez is already a polished cornerback.

Charles Power, the Director of Scouting and Rankings at On3, had some interesting insights:

“Tall, athletic cornerback who boasts the most refined coverage skills among top defensive backs in the 2025 cycle. Measured at 6-foot-2, 180 pounds with 32-inch arms at the On3 Elite Series before his senior year. He’s fast too, running 10.69 seconds in the 100 meters as a junior."

Sanchez is comfortable playing man-to-man and has smooth footwork and instincts. He’s great at sticking with receivers on deep routes. Even if he gives up a catch, he’s usually right there to make a play. However, he’ll need to work on being more physical, especially when tackling. His future success could hinge on improving in these areas.

With Sanchez on board, Ohio State is clearly looking to continue its winning ways. Could he be the next big star in college football? Only time will tell. But one thing’s for sure—he’s got a bright future ahead.
