John Mateer signs with Raising Cane’s as the Oklahoma quarterback continues building his NIL portfolio during his first season in Norman.

The Washington State transfer announced the partnership Thursday with the fast food chain that’s become a major player in college sports marketing.

Raising Cane’s has partnered with several high-profile college athletes. Previous deals include former LSU quarterback Jayden Daniels, gymnast Livvy Dunne and basketball star Angel Reese. The company also works with Alabama’s Ty Simpson, former Georgia quarterback Stetson Bennett and Miami basketball twins Hanna and Haley Cavinder.

Mateer started the season strong with wins over Michigan and Auburn. He broke a bone in his hand during the Auburn game.

The injury sidelined him for one game. He struggled in Oklahoma’s loss to Texas after returning.

Last week brought better results. Mateer played efficiently in the Sooners’ 26-7 win over South Carolina.

Through eight games, Mateer has thrown for 1,567 yards and seven touchdowns. He’s added 209 rushing yards and five rushing scores.

No. 13 Oklahoma faces No. 8 Ole Miss on Saturday. The Sooners need strong finishes in their remaining games for a possible College Football Playoff bid.

Mateer’s early Heisman Trophy momentum slowed after the hand injury. His marketability remains strong for Oklahoma’s NIL efforts.
