Ole Miss has navigated a turbulent period since last season. Lane Kiffin departed for LSU during the team’s College Football Playoff run, leaving behind questions about leadership and direction.
The program now moves forward under Pete Golding. Early signs suggest a different approach from the new coaching staff.
Trinidad Chambliss offered insight into the transition during a recent press conference following spring practice. The quarterback’s comments highlighted the contrast between coaching styles.
“The personalities are a little different. Our old coach and, you know, coach Golding, I say he’s more of a team guy and we really value his leadership. Whatever he says, he’ll show you faster than I could tell you. He leads by his actions, and we really appreciate that.”
Chambliss notably avoided using Kiffin’s name throughout his response.
The departure created significant disruption for Ole Miss. Kiffin initially sought to coach both programs simultaneously while transitioning to LSU. Keith Carter, Ole Miss athletic director, rejected the arrangement.
Chambliss faced his own challenges during the offseason. The former Ferris State transfer fought an eligibility battle with the NCAA in Mississippi court.
He won the case and returns to the field this season.
The quarterback finished eighth in Heisman Trophy voting last year. Expectations remain high for his performance under the new coaching staff.
Ole Miss hosts LSU on September 19 in Oxford. The matchup will mark Kiffin’s first return to his former program as an opposing coach.
The game carries emotional weight for both programs. Players and coaches who worked together last season will face each other across the field.
