Oregon Ducks Chase Top Talent in Football Recruiting
Building a championship-winning team isn’t just about star players on the field; it’s also about having a rock-solid foundation. And that’s exactly what Dan Lanning is focusing on as he builds his dream team in Eugene.
Lanning, along with offensive line coach A’lique Terry and defensive coordinator Tosh Lupoi, took off to Baltimore this week. Their mission? To visit Immanuel Iheanacho, a highly sought-after offensive tackle from Georgetown Prep.
Now, why is everyone buzzing about this guy? Well, Iheanacho is not just any recruit. According to the On3 Industry Ranking, which combines info from four major recruiting sites, he’s the No. 2 overall prospect for 2026. That’s huge! He’s also the top pick from Maryland, making him a big deal in the recruiting world.
Back in December, Iheanacho made waves when he announced that Oregon had jumped to the top of his list.
“Oregon is my new No. 1, but Georgia is right there at No. 2,”
he shared with On3’s Steve Wiltfong during the Under Armour All-America hotel check-in.
This didn’t happen overnight. Lanning and his team have been working hard to get Iheanacho interested. They even managed to bring him out to Eugene this past summer.
Iheanacho is pretty impressed with what he saw.
“I like coach Terry, coach Lanning,” he said. “They’re young, winning games, and producing top talent like **Penei Sewell**.” He added, “The whole setup at Oregon is awesome—from the campus to the practice fields. The weight room’s layout and the strength coach were just great. Plus, the gear is amazing—not the most important thing, but still amazing.”
With such high praise, it’s no wonder Oregon is leading the pack. But with Georgia close behind, it’s going to be an interesting race. Will Iheanacho end up donning the Ducks’ colors? Only time will tell.
