Pat McAfee ruled out a return to WWE wrestling in the foreseeable future. The ESPN College GameDay analyst addressed speculation about his wrestling career during a social media appearance.

“It feels like that business has kind of passed me by a little bit,” McAfee said via Awful Announcing. “I feel like the biz is in a good spot without me.”

The 38-year-old former NFL punter hasn’t appeared for WWE since before the college football season started. Industry observers had expected him to return during wrestling’s off-season periods.

McAfee’s comments suggest he’s prioritizing his ESPN role over part-time wrestling appearances.

His wrestling career began in 2020 as an announcer for NXT. He also competed in several matches during his time with the company.

The decision likely reflects McAfee’s commitment to College GameDay, which has become one of ESPN’s flagship college football programs. Balancing both roles had created scheduling conflicts during football season.

McAfee joined ESPN’s College GameDay as a full-time analyst. His wrestling work had been considered a side project alongside his primary broadcasting duties.

Wrestling fans had speculated about his return after his extended absence from WWE programming. Those hopes appear diminished following his recent statements.

The former Indianapolis Colts punter built a media empire that includes podcasting, broadcasting, and entertainment ventures. His ESPN role represents his most prominent television position.

College Football Coverage Continues

McAfee’s focus remains on college football analysis as the sport enters its postseason period. His departure from wrestling allows full attention to ESPN’s coverage of major bowl games and playoff matchups.
