SEC Network analyst Paul Finebaum acknowledged the Big Ten’s dominance following Ohio State’s 34-23 national championship victory over Notre Dame.

Finebaum, known for his SEC advocacy, made the surprising admission during his Tuesday appearance on ESPN’s “Get Up.”

“He has been fully vindicated,” Finebaum said of Ohio State head coach Ryan Day. “Yes, Michigan is important, losing four in a row. But winning the national championship trumps everything in the poker game of college football. And today, he stands on the top of it.”

The statement marks a significant shift for Finebaum, who previously criticized Day’s 0-4 record against Michigan.

Ohio State claimed the No. 1 spot in the final AP Poll, solidifying the Big Ten’s position among college football’s elite conferences.

The SEC’s national championship drought now extends to two seasons, its longest since 2014-15.

Day led the Buckeyes to their first national title since the 2014 season, when they defeated Oregon 42-20 in the inaugural College Football Playoff championship game.

The 2024 college football season begins in August, with Ohio State opening their championship defense against Akron.
