Texas coach Steve Sarkisian faces renewed NFL speculation as the Longhorns struggle through a disappointing season. Sports Illustrated’s Pat Forde believes the coach’s future in Austin could depend on his evaluation of quarterback Arch Manning.

Forde told The Dan Patrick Show that while Texas isn’t actively seeking a coaching change, Sarkisian is under mounting pressure after the team’s 7-3 start. The season began with national championship expectations.

“I wouldn’t be shocked” if Sarkisian explores NFL opportunities, Forde said.

His comments add weight to earlier reporting from The Athletic’s Dianna Russini linking Sarkisian to potential openings, including the Tennessee Titans. Sarkisian called those reports “completely unprofessional” last month. His agency has denied any contact with NFL teams.

Texas’ underwhelming performance and the program’s future reliance on Manning have intensified the speculation. Forde suggested Manning’s development could influence Sarkisian’s long-term thinking.

“If you are pretty well tethered to Arch Manning and you don’t think Arch Manning’s that good, maybe you’re like, okay, this might be time to get out,” he said.

Manning, the former No. 1 recruit, represents a cornerstone of Texas’ future plans.

Sarkisian signed an extension through 2031 worth $10.8 million annually. The Longhorns close the regular season against Arkansas and No. 3 Texas A&M as they fight to salvage fading postseason hopes.
