Steve Sarkisian’s representatives are shutting down reports linking the Texas head coach to NFL opportunities.
CAA agents Jimmy Sexton and Ed Marynowitz released a statement denying communications with NFL teams about coaching positions for Sarkisian. This comes after The Athletic’s senior NFL insider Dianna Russini reported he’d be interested in NFL head coaching jobs, specifically mentioning the Tennessee Titans opening.
“Any reports regarding communications on coaching opportunities with NFL teams are patently false and widely inaccurate. Sark is solely focused on coaching the University of Texas football team.”
The denial addresses speculation about Sarkisian’s interest in returning to the NFL.
Sarkisian is 43-19 in his fifth season at Texas. The Longhorns have posted back-to-back 12-win seasons and made consecutive College Football Playoff appearances under his leadership.
Money provides a compelling reason for Sarkisian to stay in Austin. He’s earning nearly $11 million at Texas in 2025, while recently fired Titans coach Brian Callahan made $3 million.
FWIW…
Steve Sarkisian’s 2025 salary at Texas: $10.8 million
Brian Callahan’s 2025 salary with the Tennessee Titans: $3 million

That’s an $8 million gap between positions.
The 51-year-old coach has NFL experience but never as a head coach. He served as Atlanta’s offensive coordinator from 2017-18 and worked as Oakland’s quarterbacks coach in 2004.
Sarkisian has built a reputation as a quarterback developer throughout his career.
Tennessee represents the only current NFL head coaching opening after firing Callahan earlier this month. The Titans started 1-5 behind Cam Ward, the No. 1 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.
Texas visits Mississippi State on Saturday as Sarkisian continues developing Arch Manning and the Longhorns’ offense. The team sits at 5-2 heading into the weekend.
