Tennessee has pulled out all the stops in their pursuit of five-star running back David Gabriel Georges. Head coach Josh Heupel and his staff have used every recruiting angle available, from detailed workout plans to showcasing the success of former Vol Alvin Kamara.
Heupel knows securing a commitment from DGG would be huge for the program.
The financial stakes are significant. If Georges commits to Tennessee, the expectation is that he’ll stay with the program for three years.
“He’s expected to be in the $1 million range, shy of $2 million,” On3’s Pete Nakos wrote. “It will be a multi-year deal, that’s something the family has talked about. The family is very clear that it wants a multi-year deal, so they have a roadmap for his entire career.”
Decision Timeline Creates Confusion
Last week brought a major development when a family member reportedly revealed that Georges had already made his decision.
“According to Steve Wiltfong of On3, David Gabriel Georges has already made his decision. While the five-star running back is not scheduled to announce his commitment until July 22, the Baylor School standout reportedly knows where he will be continuing his football career,”
All For Tennessee’s Conner Linsner wrote.
College football recruiting circles went into overdrive when news of DGG’s potential silent commitment broke.
But Georges recently threw cold water on those reports. He’s still weighing his options between two programs.
“It’s hard. You feel this way, like you know, and then it’s sort of 50-50. People will say the 22nd of July is far off, but honestly for me, it’s pretty close,” Gabriel Georges told On3’s Chris Low.
Tennessee Banking on Relationships
This recruitment will go down to the wire for the most coveted running back in the entire class.
DGG has already established himself as a rare talent. Tennessee is hoping they can land him in Knoxville.
The Volunteers are leaning heavily on the relationships they’ve built with Georges and his family. His connection with strength and conditioning coach Derek Owings has been particularly important.
While Tennessee’s top target remains split on his decision, Heupel is hoping the Vols will ultimately get the chance to welcome Gabriel Georges to Rocky Top.
