Texas AM Commit Drops Bold Message About Mike Elko Recruiting Surge image

Texas A&M added tight end Holden Niemi to its 2027 recruiting class Friday. The commitment gives coach Mike Elko his 15th pledge in a class that currently ranks No. 1 nationally.

Niemi chose the Aggies over Tennessee and Miami. He’s rated as a three-star prospect and the No. 44 tight end in the 2027 class by Rivals.

The commitment comes just weeks after Elko hired Derek Shay as tight ends coach in January.

Texas A&M offered Niemi nine days after Shay joined the staff. He becomes the Aggies’ first tight end commit in the 2027 cycle and joins wide receiver Jaden Upshaw as the only skill-position players currently pledged to the class.

Offensive tackle commit Kaeden Scott recently told GigEm247 he expects more recruits to follow.

“There’s not much else I need to see. A lot of recruits are about to come to A&M.”

Scott is rated as a four-star recruit and the No. 16 offensive tackle nationally according to Rivals.

One-third of Texas A&M’s 2027 commitments carry five-star ratings. That group includes:

• Offensive linemen Kennedy Brown and Mark Matthews
• Edge rusher Zyron Forstall
• Defensive backs Kamarui Dorsey and Raylaun Henry

The Aggies have also secured pledges from JayQuan Snell and Myels Smith.

Elko’s staff continues building momentum in what’s shaping up to be an elite recruiting class. The early success suggests Texas A&M’s 2027 group could remain at the top of national rankings as the cycle progresses.
