Texas wide receiver Isaiah Bond has declared he will break the NFL combine 40-yard dash record set by former Longhorns teammate Xavier Worthy.

“I’m going to break the record tomorrow, for sure,” Bond said Friday. “I anticipate running 4.20 or possibly, if I’m feeling great, I might run a 4.1.”

Worthy, selected by the Kansas City Chiefs after a draft day trade last year, set the current record with a time of 4.21 seconds.

The Chiefs receiver went on to record 59 catches for 638 yards and six touchdowns in the regular season. He added eight receptions, 157 yards and two touchdowns in Super Bowl LIX.

Bond, who transferred to Texas from Alabama for the 2024 season, brings a track background to support his bold prediction.

“I’ve been running my whole life,” Bond said. “I’ve been one of the fastest my whole life, so I’m going to go out there, and when practice meets preparation, greatness is achieved. So I’m just going to trust my training and put on a show.”

The 20-year-old won the Georgia High School Association state championships in track for three consecutive years (2019-2021). He claimed both the 100-meter and 200-meter titles in the Class 6A division in 2021.

Bond caught 34 passes for 540 yards and five touchdowns for Texas in 2024. The previous season at Alabama, he recorded 48 receptions, 668 yards and four touchdowns.

NFL.com analyst Lance Zierlein describes Bond as “fluid, fast and untapped” and “a capable route-runner” with potential to develop into a good starter.

At 5-foot-11 and 180 pounds, Bond faces questions about his size for the NFL level.

A Bleacher Report scouting report notes his limited catch radius could create challenges with contested catches.

Similar concerns were raised about Worthy before last year’s combine, according to Bleacher Report’s pre-draft analysis.
