Texas Longhorns quarterback Quinn Ewers will participate in on-field workouts at this year’s NFL Scouting Combine, according to ESPN Draft analyst Matt Miller.

Ewers is among 15 quarterbacks invited to the event in Indianapolis, unlike Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders who opted out of throwing.

The former No. 1 overall recruit aims to improve his draft stock after an inconsistent 2023 season. His performances ranged from 300-yard, multi-touchdown games to sub-200 yard outings with multiple interceptions.

Lone Star Live reports Ewers battled a severe torn oblique injury that affected him for 12 games last season.

The injury occurred after his Week 2 performance against Michigan where he threw for 246 yards and three touchdowns while completing 66.7% of his passes. Ewers left the following game against UTSA before halftime and missed nearly a month before returning for Texas’ final 11 games, including four playoff matchups.

Ewers reportedly enters the Combine with a clean bill of health.

He’s currently projected as a third-round selection according to Bleacher Report’s scouting:

“Quinn Ewers is a talented, point guard-style quarterback prospect. He possesses starting-caliber talent but lacks consistency or the killer instinct to put opponents away when the opportunity presents itself. Ewers can benefit from learning behind an established veteran before being given the chance to take the reins of an NFL franchise.”

That inconsistency makes his Combine performance crucial for his draft positioning.

Even with his current health, durability concerns remain. In three seasons at Texas, Ewers missed seven games due to injury.

While the controlled Combine environment will showcase his arm talent, NFL teams may still question his ability to withstand the physical demands of professional football.
