Texas Tech announced that running back Quinten Joyner will miss the entire 2025 season due to a knee injury, according to Don Williams of the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal.
The USC transfer got hurt during the team’s second preseason scrimmage Saturday at Jones AT&T Stadium. He was expected to be a starter for the Red Raiders this fall.
Joyner was set to enter his sophomore season after transferring from Southern California. Last year, he was USC’s second-leading rusher with 75 touches for 567 total yards and four touchdowns.
He picked Texas Tech over Ohio State as part of the Red Raiders’ strong transfer class.
His top performances came against Utah State with 10 carries for 84 yards and two touchdowns. He also ran 10 times for 83 yards against Notre Dame.
The injury means J’Koby Williams and Cameron Dickey will take over the backfield duties. Both players saw action last season behind 1,500-yard rusher Tahj Brooks.
Williams rushed for 123 yards in the Liberty Bowl loss to Arkansas, including a 54-yard touchdown run.
Texas Tech is coming off an 8-5 season under head coach Joey McGuire. The Red Raiders finished strong last fall and brought in several key transfers for this year.
The team officially opens the 2025 season on Aug. 30 when it hosts Arkansas-Pine Bluff at home.
