Ring Magazine revealed that UFC CEO Dana White will make his boxing debut as a promoter when Canelo Alvarez faces Terence Crawford on Sept. 13 in Las Vegas.
Netflix will broadcast the fight, which determines the Unified Super Middleweight Champion.
The bout settles one of boxing’s biggest debates about who’s the best non-heavyweight fighter today. White is partnering with Sela Promotions for the event.
Tom Brady and Shaquille O’Neal will join White in hosting a podcast with both fighters called "GOAT Talk." The show premieres Monday, June 23.
The promotion includes a three-city press tour with stops in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, New York City and Las Vegas.
White expressed his excitement about promoting such a high-profile matchup.
“Turki wants to make the biggest fights that the fans want to see in boxing and this is right up my alley,” White said. “Are you kidding me that the first boxing fight I’m going to get to promote is Canelo vs. Crawford? It’s literally a once-in-a-lifetime fight.”
Alvarez enters with a 62-2-2 record and 39 knockouts. The Mexican champion said he’s ready to prove himself again on the global stage.
“I’m super happy to be making history again and this time on a Riyadh Season Card that will be broadcast on Netflix,” Alvarez said. “On September 13, I’m ready to show once again that I am the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world.”
Crawford brings a perfect 41-0 record with 31 knockouts to the ring.
The Nebraska fighter said his undefeated record proves he’s ready for any challenge, regardless of weight class.
“My perfect record speaks for itself,” Crawford said. “I am the best fighter in the world and no matter the opponent or weight class, I have always come out on top. On September 13, my hand will be raised once again as the world watches greatness.”
The three-month countdown to one of boxing’s most anticipated fights has officially begun.
