The 2025 recruiting cycle is wrapping up in just a couple of days. As we gear up for February’s National Signing Day, On3 has rolled out its final player rankings, spotlighting some of the top safeties across the nation.
Jonah Williams stands out as a Five-Star Plus+ prospect, earning five-star ratings from all major recruiting services. He’s On3’s No. 1 safety in the country, and that’s pretty impressive.
Here’s a look at the top 10 safeties in this class:

School: Galveston (Texas) Ball
On300 Ranking: No. 15 NATL.Scouting Summary: Imagine a safety with linebacker size but the speed and agility of a top defensive back. That’s Jonah Williams for you. Standing at 6’3" and weighing 206 pounds, he’s got arms that stretch over 32 inches. This guy’s not just a one-trick pony; he plays safety, wide receiver, and even returns kicks. He’s fast, fluid, and can cover the field like nobody’s business. His knack for tracking the ball is on point, snagging four interceptions as a junior. Oh, and did we mention he scored 13 touchdowns on offense last year? Plus, he’s a talented baseball player, throwing a mean 94 MPH as a left-handed pitcher. Talk about a dual-threat!

On300 Ranking: No. 31 NATL.Scouting Summary: This guy might just be the most well-rounded safety in the 2025 class. At nearly 6 feet tall and 183 pounds, he’s versatile enough to play safety, corner, and slot receiver. He’s quick on his feet too, running six sub-11-second times in the 100 meters as a junior. Whether it’s breaking up passes or making one-handed catches, he’s got the ball skills coaches love. And he’s not afraid to get physical, which is always a plus.

School: Lyons (Ga.) Toombs County
On300 Ranking: No. 35 NATL.Scouting Summary: Here’s a kid who does it all on the football field. Standing close to 6’1" and weighing 200 pounds, he helped lead his high school to a state title as a senior. He’s a tough defender who’s quick to react and break up plays. With 44 tackles and 8 pass breakups last season, he’s a force to be reckoned with. Plus, he caught 58 passes for 798 yards and 14 touchdowns. Not bad for someone who just turned 18.

On300 Ranking: No. 44 NATL.About Kainoa Winston: Committed to Michigan on June 14, 2024, Kainoa Winston chose the Wolverines over Penn State, North Carolina, and Oregon. His official visit to Ann Arbor left quite an impression. "The visit was good," he said. "I got to hang around the players and coaches more, just getting to bond and build relationships with them. My biggest takeaway from the visit was how genuine the people at Michigan are and the workhorse culture that has been established there."

School: Winston Salem (N.C.) Mount Tabor
On300 Ranking: No. 71 NATL.Scouting Summary: A massive safety at 6’4.5" and 195 pounds, he’s got the size and skills to play all over the field. His long arms and quick feet make him a standout in coverage, whether he’s playing zone or man. With four interceptions last year, he knows how to make plays on the ball. Plus, he’s still growing, so there’s even more potential there.

On300 Ranking: No. 88 NATL.Scouting Summary: This safety plays with a mean streak and isn’t afraid to get physical. His strong trigger and ability to run downfield make him a tough defender. While his man coverage skills need some polish, he’s ready to make an impact in the run game as soon as he hits campus.

On300 Ranking: No. 92 NATL.Scout’s Take: Anquon Fegans is one polished defensive back. At about 6 feet tall and 185 pounds, he’s been an interception machine, snagging nine picks as a junior. His instincts and ball skills are top-notch, and he’s got the physical tools to be a strong tackler. Don’t be surprised if he sees the field early in his college career.

On300 Ranking: No. 94 NATL.Scouting Summary: A highly coordinated two-way player, he could excel as either a receiver or a defensive back. With over 1,000 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns as a sophomore, plus eight interceptions, he’s a true playmaker. His effortless movement and ball-tracking ability make him a standout free safety.

On300 Ranking: No. 101 NATL.Scout’s Take: Tae Harris is an explosive athlete, turning heads at Under Armour’s 2024 camp circuit. Standing at 6’3.25" and weighing 263 pounds, he’s got a wingspan of over 7 feet. On the track, he doubles as a top sprinter. Keep an eye on this one.

On300 Ranking: No. 107 NATL.Scout’s Take: Hylton Stubbs is a big, physical safety with a knack for being around the ball. He finds ways to make plays and could evolve into a strong safety as he bulks up. Having seen him play several times, he projects as a physically imposing defender who can stop the run and hawk the ball.
