Top cornerback prospect’s private workout spoiled by hamstring injury

**Avieon Terrell** suffered another hamstring injury during his private workout Monday, ending his day after just one run and likely eliminating his chances to post public testing numbers before the draft.

Adam Schefter reported that the **Clemson Tigers** cornerback aggravated the same hamstring injury that forced him to postpone his pro day. The injury flared up on his first 40-yard dash attempt.

The timing couldn’t be worse for Terrell, who’s fighting to be the top cornerback selected in the **2026 NFL Draft**.

**LSU’s Mansoor Delane** currently leads the position group after posting a sub-4.40 40-yard dash following his strong 2025 season. **Tennessee’s Jermod McCoy** remains a wild card after missing the entire 2025 season with an ACL tear, despite his exceptional 2024 campaign.

Terrell showed plus athleticism on film but isn’t the type of obvious speed demon who doesn’t need to run at the combine. His burst stands out more than his top-end speed.

The **5’10”, 186-pound** cornerback excels at making plays in the backfield and closing quickly in zone coverage. His smooth footwork and change-of-direction skills allow him to play both boundary and slot positions.

That versatility creates questions about his best fit at the next level.

Terrell’s undersized frame and limited length put him at a disadvantage on the boundary. His coverage technique and processing ability help compensate, but his physical limitations likely project him as a slot corner in the NFL.

His length may have impacted his interception totals – he finished with three picks as a Tiger and none in 2025. But Terrell consistently defended passes through strong positioning.

The hamstring injury hasn’t caused him to miss game action, and there’s no indication it’s the type of soft-tissue problem that follows players to the pros.

Terrell remains a **first-round prospect** whose combination of skills and production make him a safe bet to start immediately. His foot speed and run defense make him a strong fit for the slot role.

McCoy’s 2024 film and Delane’s 2025 campaign will make it harder for Terrell to crack the top 15 picks in April. Without the chance to validate his athleticism on paper, he may slide toward the end of the first round.
