Jaguars’ Travis Hunter Could Make NFL History as Two-Way Player

Deion Sanders believes Travis Hunter has what it takes to play both offense and defense at the NFL level. As Hunter’s former head coach at Colorado, Sanders has unique insight into the challenges of playing both ways professionally.

Hunter has repeatedly expressed respect for Sanders both as a coach and as a person.

NFL.com’s Dante Fleming predicts Hunter will make history by becoming the first player since Sanders to start on both sides of the ball multiple times in the same game.

“4) Start on offense and defense in the same game multiple times. Last to do it: Deion Sanders in 1996. The Hall of Fame cornerback — and Hunter’s head coach in college — started on both sides of the ball eight times for the Cowboys that season. He tallied two picks, three fumble recoveries, 36 catches and 475 receiving yards en route to the fourth of his six first-team All-Pro selections,” NFL.com wrote.

Hunter’s elite skills on both offense and defense, combined with his conditioning, make him a rare candidate for two-way duties.

The Jacksonville Jaguars now face decisions about how to utilize Hunter’s versatility. They could deploy him on both sides during critical situations, but must balance this against keeping him healthy and performing at his best.

For now, the possibility of Hunter playing both ways remains on the table.
