North Dakota State wide receiver Bryce Lance earned recognition as one of college football’s top athletes this offseason. The Athletic’s Bruce Feldman ranked Lance No. 34 on his annual Freak List, highlighting the receiver’s combination of size and athleticism.

The 6-foot-3, 207-pound Lance posted a 40-inch vertical jump and 10-foot-10 broad jump during offseason testing.

Lance’s younger brother of former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Trey Lance, who was selected No. 2 overall in 2021. Trey has since played for Dallas and currently serves as the third-string quarterback for the Los Angeles Chargers.

But Bryce has carved out his own path at the receiver position.

“Trey Lance’s younger brother is a special athlete, too,” Feldman writes. “At 6-3, 207 pounds, he vertical jumped 40 inches this offseason and broad jumped 10-10. That kind of explosiveness shows up on the field.”

Lance set an NDSU record with 17 touchdown receptions last season, leading the FCS. The first-team All-Missouri Valley Football Conference selection finished with 75 catches for 1,071 yards.

His production comes despite questions about the level of competition in the Missouri Valley Football Conference. NDSU has produced several successful NFL players in recent years, though Trey’s struggles as a quarterback have put additional scrutiny on prospects from the program.

Lance’s combination of NFL-caliber size, tested athleticism and proven production makes him a legitimate draft prospect for 2025.

The receiver will face increased attention this season as scouts evaluate whether his talent translates beyond the FCS level. His physical tools suggest the potential for success at the next level, regardless of his brother’s NFL trajectory.

NDSU begins its 2025 season with Lance expected to serve as the team’s primary receiving threat.
