North Carolina added another quarterback to its 2025 roster through the transfer portal.

On3 reported that Taron Dickens committed to transfer from Western Carolina to UNC. The move gives Bill Belichick three new signal-callers as he enters his second season with the Tar Heels.

Dickens put up big numbers at the FCS level in 2024. He completed 74.2% of his passes for 3,508 yards with 38 touchdowns and just two interceptions.

The quarterback also added 321 rushing yards.

Over his college career at Western Carolina, Dickens threw 51 touchdowns against five interceptions. He’s listed at 5-foot-11 and 180 pounds.

The Miami Northwestern High School product was rated as a three-star recruit by 247Sports coming out of high school.

Dickens will compete for the starting job with Billy Edwards from Wisconsin and Miles O’Neill from Texas A&M. Both quarterbacks also transferred to North Carolina this offseason.

UNC’s first season under Belichick ended with a 6-7 record. Finding the right quarterback will be crucial for the Tar Heels to improve in year two.

The competition between the three transfer quarterbacks should provide Belichick with options as he looks to establish his offensive system in Chapel Hill.
