Stanford has fired head coach Troy Taylor after ESPN reported that Taylor “bullied and belittled female athletic staffers” during his tenure. Former NFL head coach Frank Reich will serve as interim coach this season, the team announced.

The coaching change has triggered an exodus of players to the transfer portal, as NCAA rules allow a 30-day transfer window following a coach’s departure.

David Bailey, Stanford’s standout defensive end, has entered the portal and appears headed to Texas Tech, according to On3 Sports’ Pete Nakos.

Bailey has improved each season since 2022. Last year, he recorded 31 combined tackles, eight tackles for loss, and seven sacks.

The defensive end had opted to return for his final year of eligibility rather than enter the NFL Draft.

Texas Tech has invested heavily in NIL to attract top talent in the transfer portal era. The Red Raiders currently have the third-ranked transfer class according to 247Sports, with 17 commitments.

Bailey would provide immediate impact for a Texas Tech defense that struggled to generate pressure last season. No Red Raider recorded more than five sacks in 2024.

Texas Tech finished 8-5 last season and hasn’t won 10 games since 2008 under the late Mike Leach.
