The Cleveland Browns announced that quarterback Shedeur Sanders completed his degree at the University of Colorado on Saturday, according to Browns beat writer Mary Kay Cabot.
Sanders walked across the stage to receive his diploma in sociology nearly a year after Cleveland selected him in the NFL Draft.
The 22-year-old quarterback maintained his academic commitments while transitioning to professional football. He finished his coursework with a 3.9 GPA.
Sanders’ Academic Focus
Sociology examines society, social institutions and human behavior patterns.
The degree could provide Sanders valuable insight as he navigates NFL stardom and prepares for the competition ahead. He’s expected to compete with Deshaun Watson for Cleveland’s starting quarterback position in 2026.
Sanders posted a message on social media following the graduation ceremony:
Let’s focus on what truly matters in life, and bring others along so we can elevate each other mentally, physically, and spiritually.

The Browns drafted Sanders after his standout college career at Colorado, where he threw for over 8,000 yards across two seasons with the Buffaloes.
Sanders will return to Cleveland’s offseason program with his degree complete. The team begins organized team activities next month.
His academic achievement adds another dimension to his preparation as he enters his second NFL season. College football players often struggle to balance coursework with professional commitments after entering the draft.
Cleveland’s quarterback situation remains fluid heading into 2026. Watson has dealt with injuries and inconsistent performance since joining the Browns.
Sanders now has both his sociology degree and a full year of NFL experience as he prepares for what could be a pivotal season in Cleveland.
